Fodele Beach Hotel Building upon the successful first meeting at Playa del Carmen in Mexico in December 2006 the second meeting in this series will again concern itself with the increasing research activity directed towards the development and understanding of novel synthetic materials with particular emphasis on their properties at the nano-metric level. In particular the application of Ion Beams interactions with matter.

As with the previous conference and in an attempt to establish a tradition with this series we aim to celebrate the contribution of one of the many people who have played a crucial role in developing this ever expanding field.

This time we will be organizing the meeting in honour of George Carter for his contribution to the understanding of atomic collisions in solids. Along with his co-author, John Colligon, George wrote one of the first and most cited text
books covering the field - "The Ion Bombardment of Solids" in 1968. Thanks to his efforts and to the team he put together at Salford University many people were introduced to the field and encouraged to participate in and develop contacts and collaborations in all aspects of ion solid interactions. For more than 30 years many people found themselves at one point or another passing through Salford.
